Get trained!
Prime for life - Ireland is very pleased to have been chosen as the Prevention Research Institute's partner to offer training in the delivery of Prime for life to other professionals throughout Ireland.

Training to become a New Prime for life instructor is easy and the whole process has been developed with busy professionals in mind.
It is highly recommended that people who wish to train to become a New Prime for life instructor are trained in using Motivational Interviewing as the programme utilises this communication style throughout.
As well as the following training process, New Instructors will receive an e-manual which can be used while delivering Prime for life as an on-the-spot source of support.
New Instructors also have access to the Prime for life App which allows for individual prompting notes to be inserted which act as a delivery aid during the delivery of the programme. The App also has a "show me how" feature which instructors can view each section of the programme being delivered by experienced facilitators. This feature is particularly useful in preparation for a session.
Self directed learning- Introduction and Theory.
Initial learning involves New Instructors engaging with numerous short videos that gradually brings you through everything you will need to know about Prime for life and the ethos of it's delivery. Theory and approaches such as the Stages of Change (Prochaska and Di Clemente) and avoiding argumentation (Miller and Rollnick) are covered in an accessible and in-depth way.
Conveniently, this video content is pre- recorded so New Instructors can engage with the content at a time that is convenient for them. Additionally these videos have been purposefully broken down into smaller segments which means that New Instructors who are short of time, or need to attend to other issues that arise can complete one short session and return to the next segment at a convenient time and not have to start all over again.
Zoom session 1 (2 hours)
New Instructors attend a live Zoom meeting with an experienced Prime for life instructor. During this sessions participants will begin to learn how the information from the self-directed training relates to the delivery of the programme.
New Instructors are introduced to the Prime for life App which is used throughout the delivery. New Instructors will observe the first sections of the programme being delivered live by the facilitator.
During this session and subsequent sessions New Instructors have ample opportunity to ask questions and familiarise themselves with the content and delivery of the programme.
The outline above is then followed in a similar pattern which builds on both the New Instructors learning and confidence. Again using self-directed learning via pre-recorded theory videos and backed up by live Zoom events where New Instructors will experience the live delivery of the programme.
